I have heard an illustrator defined as a narrative artist. I like that definition because, as an illustrator, you are trying to improve the writing with pictures. Some ideas and messages are difficult to communicate with words and this is where illustration can help.
I use both traditional illustration techniques – such as pen and ink, watercolours, and pastels – along with digital illustration software tools such as Adobe Illustrator. My portfolio includes greeting cards, scratchcards, children’s book illustrations and digitally rendered vector files.
